Tiger
| Interview
with the Art Director |
|
Why
did you choose the TAB?
The
TAB was chosen over other 2D software because of:
|
|
The
fast keyframing and ability to move keyframes |
|
|
The
fact that you can draw as many drawings as you like and only
use the drawings you want |
|
|
The
pump tool to vary line thickness still retaining only one control
line |
|
|
Scrubbing
of audio track and the playback of the corresponding drawings |
Did
the TAB influence the artistic result of your work?
No, it would have been much the same in any program. As the concept
was created on paper then recreated in the TAB. The TAB did make
this easier though with the help of the Pinch tool: its a
great tool to clean up your basic sketch.
How
was working with the TAB?
Very user friendly, compared to say Flash or Toonboom. The TAB
really is out in front for broadcast animation. The other programs
can do all the same things but the process is much more painful.
Which
TAB feature was particularly useful in the production process?
|
The Pinch tool. At first your not sure as to how useful it
is but when youre working on a job it makes things so
much quicker then mucking around with control points. Also
the keyframing is excellent. The ability to shift keyframes
and ease in and out of a keyframe is great.

Which
part of the work was done completely in the TAB?
|
|
The
creation of the Tiges character |
|
|
The
animated Top and Tail of the commercials (5 seconds each) |
|
|
An
animation to bring on product pricing |
|
|
An
animation of Tiges driving a forklift of tiles |
All were
rendered in QuickTime with alpha.
Which
software did you use to do the whole animation?
All the animation was done in the TAB and made into QuickTime movies
for Optomus Productions to place over live vision with Final Cut
Pro.
Do
you think TAB is good enough to accomplish broadcast quality?
It sure is and I wont be using it if I didnt think
so.
How
many people were involved in the production? How did you organize
your work?
Three people were involved. Most of the work was conducted through
e-mail, as the production facility is located in a different state.
Small previews were sent for feedback; then once approved the final
animation was sent by courier to be integrated into the rest of the
commercials.
Did
you run the TAB on a powerful workstation?
The workstation is a 1.8 GHz Athlon, standard GeForce card with
1 GB of RAM: not exactly a monster.
How
much time did you save?
Probably hours to days considering the complex process of the competing
products.
Is
there any future project you are going to develop with TAB?
Im
in the middle of doing another job as we speak. This is also
another TV commercial.
