When
Mr. Alcisa asked to Dina Group
to make a TV ad for his Bologna
sausage, he already had a logo
for his product: three cartoonish
walking pigs. He also had an
old spot version, but the animation
quality was very poor and pigs
looked flat painted.
The art director suggested to
give a 3D look to those pigs
and a 3D specialized operator
was asked to give a budget for
the animation contribute.
The 3D budget was too high so
they had to find an alternative
solution, and they had to do
it quickly because of a broadcasting
deadline.
The composer was aware of the
TAB as she saw it in a trade
show. She remembered the image
quality you can get with the
TAB special styles, it
wont ever look like a
3D model but we will give a
volume effect to our characters,
and the result will be a softer,
raster-looking image!
she said,so it will probably
solve at least one problem,
the artistic one.
A junior animator was involved
in the project. After less than
one week he was able to use
the software, and gave to the
composer four animated contributes,
one clip for each pig plus one
for the total shadow. The deadline
was met.
At the end the TAB solved both
artistic problems and production
ones.
